The art exhibition which the artist would like to propose, “The Spirit inside Sculpture”, came to mind during the realisation of an art work featuring seven archangels of the Christian religion. Deepening the studies of angelology, the artist discovered that also in the Judaism and Islam, like in Christianity there were “intermediary beings” capable of transmitting God’s wish and bringing the Word of God. In the story of Abraham, and even prior to the creation of the Universe, we witness the presence of these beings also through the sacred scriptures. Angelology and demonology are, in Islam as well as in Christianity and Judaism, comprised of beliefs and figures born from the stratification of various levels (ranks or hierarchies) developed over the course of the history of peoples. The artist analysed the symbolic “figures” that participated at the “divine plan”, starting with the figure of Archangel Gabriel; he does not claim to explain or teach anything concerning the themes addressed, but intends to offer one point for spiritual reflection exploring the various cited religions. The art work will be the realisation of an art installation created with different materials (wood, iron, inlaid marble slabs, and epoxy resins) where an octagonal bowl (of approximately 3/4 meters, made of wood and inlaid marble) will stand in front of the figure of a child (full-round sculpture). All this will be framed by vertical installations of figures representing the “Spirits of Light”, composed respecting the geometries of Sephirot and the musical intervals of Gregorian chant. The dimensions of the art work will be adjusted to the exhibition space dedicated to it.

The artist Attilio Di Maio was born in Turin in 1969, where he lives and works. Graduated from the artistic high school in 1987, he obtained a degree in sculpture from the “Accademia Albertina” of Fine arts in Turin with top marks. He is a profound admirer of French Gothic art, from which he draws inspiration for his most recent works in sculpture and painting. He has dedicated himself to working with marble, granite, and semi-precious stones, not overlooking modulation and bronze casting. He has worked as a consultant on the use of stone materials and as artistic director for various architecture firms operating in Europe and South America. Currently, he collaborates with some of these and is part of a team of professionals in the field of decoration. He founded and manages “Math12_spaziotrasverale” together with other Turin-based artist. He is a teacher of plastic arts, scenography, drawing and art history.
