DEBATE: “After Navalny’s jailing. What future for EU-Russia relations?” | Wednesday 24 February,19:00 - 20:00, on Zoom.
Dear friend of the European Parliamentary Association,
We are delighted to invite you to “After Navalny’s jailing. What future for EU-Russia relations?”, a videoconference that will take place on Wednesday 24 February, from 7:00 to 8 pm, on Zoom.
To participate, you just have to click on this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81190878302
The imprisonment of Alexei Navalny, Russia's most prominent opposition leader, marks a new low point in the relations between the European Union and the Russian Federation.
Who is Alexei Navalny and what does he represent in Russian politics? Why is it important for Europe to make her voice heard on this issue? What kind of neighbour is Russia for the European Union? What is the political situation in Russia ahead of the parliamentary elections of September? How can the EU put pressure on those who have direct responsibility for the arrest and harassment of Alexei Navalny? In what other ways can the EU support the Russian liberal opposition? Russia is struggling to deal with a series of crisis at its periphery: what does it mean for the stability of the current regime? Is there a way for the EU to avoid continuous confrontation with Moscow?
We will discuss that with:
- Micheal Gahler, Member of the European Parliament for the European People’s Party (EPP). He’s coordinator for the EPP Group in the Committee on Foreign Affairs;
- Bernard Guetta, Member of the European Parliament for the Renew Europe Group. He’s Renew Europe’s rapporteur on Russia;
- Annalisa Bottani, journalist covering Russian politics and culture for the Italian magazine “ytali”.
We remain at your disposal for every additional information and hope to see you there.
Yours sincerely,
Matteo ANGELI
