August 12, 2022, New York State: Salman Rushdie, under a fatwa for thirty-three years, is seriously wounded in an attack. His crime, in the eyes of the Islamists? He was guilty of "blasphemy" and "apostasy" for having written The Satanic Verses, a novel that became universally famous as soon as it appeared in 1988. The collective work "Penser Salman Rushdie" (Thinking Salman Rushdie), published on 10 November, aims to defend his work and his thought, but also our democratic values, freedom and tolerance, human rights and human dignity.
The Amicale is proud to welcome Daniel Salvatore Schiffer, who edited this publication, as well as two of its authors, Valérie Trierweiler and Olivier Weber, and to join the tribute to the great Indo-British writer. See you on 30 November from 2 30 pm to 4 pm in Room 5 of the Palais de l’Europe.
