Activity report of the Music Section - Year 2018

Written written the 14/08/2019

In 2018, the Music Section has taken part in or organised 20 events either at the Council of Europe, or outside its walls: Librairie Kléber, Strasbourg Cathedral, Zenith, Saint-Bernard Church, Protestant Chapel of Hôpital Civil in Strasbourg, Royal Albert Hall in London, psychiatric department and surgery B at the Hôpital Civil, and, as a grand finale to the year, in the famous Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

The highlights were:

  • Exchange between choirs with Coral Edu.Cant de Barcelona, giving a charity concert for the benefit of a school in Bangui (RCA) on 16 June in Strasbourg, and a concert in the crypt of Sagrada Familia on 15 December which was attended by 28 singers from the Council of Europe and 2 from UNESCO;
  • the “Fête de la Musique” was extended to include the Dance Sections of the Amicale, much to the delight of the public;
  • a concert was given in the Protestant Chapel at the Hôpital Civil with fellow musicians of the Philharmonie de Strasbourg, for the benefit of Association La Cimade, an organisation that takes care of oppressed and exploited people and defends the dignity and rights of people refugees and migrants;
  • The Kléber bookshop has twice hosted the 12 Stars Band, in February for a concert entitled "A woman's world" and in September, for a multilingual concert featuring songs related to literature, at the CMD, on the occasion of the closing of the “Rentrée littéraire” under the theme of "Bibliothèques idéales".
    The choir also gave a Christmas recital in the famous “Salle blanche”.
