Michael is an award-winning landscape architect, architect, artist, jeweller and writer. He studied at Plymouth Art College, Plymouth Polytechnic, and Sheffield University, and worked both in local government and private practice. He was the founding President of the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture, Vice President of the Landscape Institute and Chairman of its Education Committee for several years. He is currently engaged as an Expert to the Council of Europe working alongside the European Landscape Convention. In October 2014, Michael received an honorary membership of the International Federation of Landscape Architects Europe. The award was presented by the General Assembly on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. Michael now lives in the French Alps where, whilst still engaging in a number of professional activities, he devotes a little more time to sporting interests including paragliding, skiing and climbing. He is an experienced mountaineer who has climbed extensively in the Massif du Mont Blanc, as well being an experienced sailor having participated in international regattas such as the Fastnet Race and the Swan Rolex Cup. His artistic works include watercolours, photomontages, pen and ink sketches and works produced on an iPad.
