JELENA BLECIC, a painter and designer was born in 1974 in Belgrade, where she currently lives and works as an artist, a Docent at the Academy of Fine Arts and Multimedia (PhD candidate, scholarship by the State of Mexico) and Associate Dean for Marketing. Being interested in applied art, she has founded and became artistic director of the project “Fun Fan”. Jelena Ble?i? has played an active part in the world of arts and paintings in the Balkans for more than 20 years. She held over 15 individual and 20 collective exhibitions in her own country, as well as abroad in Slovenia, Montenegro, Denmark, France and Mexico. She also worked on projects and industrial design with large companies like Mercedes, Avon, PharmaSwiss, AdriaMedia, Attica Media, as well as with magazines like Casa Viva, Cosmopolitan, Grazia, Elle, etc. Jelena was awarded several awards for her work. All her paintings are made in combined techniques, mostly on wooden surface. The dimensions are from 50x50 to 210x120 cm. Jelena's "Infusion of Joy" may be interpreted as an artistic essay on contemporary culture which is mired in attempts to conceal its own essential superficiality. Her paintings represent a serious artistic study of reinvigorating power of humour which serves as wake-up call in a world becoming frighteningly uniform. Originators of her work come from the same tree as she does…It is a tree bearing people that have no age but only spirit, and on this beautiful tree no ages and borders exist, the only values being the timeless ones. Her audiences are people who are in love with life and freedom. People see her work as a decoder of happiness and contagious joy. Her art is charming and without doing anything, it lures long forgotten smile, smile at first glance. Jelena’s art, her games with objects, perspectives and almost “tropical colors” will make those hours when we meet it, intentionally or accidentally, more pleasant, and that they will be a good day, for sure, and “for the rest of our lives” we have to take care ourselves. She nurtures health, acting as a catalyst for joy. Over time, the joy had spread and grown more powerful inside her, together with appetite for work. At certain point, she had a strong desire to translate her paintings, philosophy, symbolism and many other aspects into the area of applied arts. Especially interesting are absolutely authentic “abstract patterns” derived from paintings which are today further developed and adjusted to suit the specific purposes. Apart from paintings, Jelena today designs furniture and accessories such as shoes, bags, jewelry, decorative pillows and sheets, scarves, kaftans, hats, notebooks, etc. As a visual artist, the transition from one medium to another serves as a refreshment for Jelena. She sees all of her creative work as one organism, as a system of communicating vessels with mutual connections and support. You will see, this is a “organised chaos” with which you may be familiar too. Jelena Blecic’s paintings and design have elements of planetary aesthetics but in the same time, they have local authenticity. Her work is very often seen as a nomad contemporary chic and pure spontaneous subversion. Another time, there will be more details on everything. Moderation is wondrous thing.
