The Aszú of Tokaj, a sweet wine of Hungary, was once cherished by King Louis XIV, Queen Victoria, Peter the Great, Goethe and Beethoven. But the world has since forgotten the noble Aszú; twoworld wars, the enforced collectivisation of the Communistregime and the deadly filoxera epidemic had all wreaked havoc on the vines. Three men: István Szepsy, the scion of a great Hungarian wine-making family, András Bacsó, the managingdirector of Oremus, and László Alkonyi, a once-successful stock broker who fell in love with wine-making and moved to Tokaj. One shared obsession: to return the Great Wine to its place on the most important tables of the world. The men set the bar high: to make the world’s best, 100% naturally produced sweet wine. Battling nature’s whims and competing with global powers, could they better the grandest international wine producers and restore the Aszú to its former glory?

le lundi 18 octobre 12-14h Szelek szárnyán, felhök fölé / RIDING THE HIGH WINDS ABOVE THE CLOUDS, Documentaire, 2017 (sous-titre anglais, 40 min)

Director and cinematographer: György Sibalin, Written and narrated by: Snežana Milivojevi?

The documentary reveals the life of the first Serbian Olympic athlete, Mom?ilo Tapavica.

As a member of the Hungarian Olympic team Mom?iloTapavica reached third place in tennis at the Athens Olympic Games in 1896. But later he turned towards architecture and engineering. The Orthodox Episcopal Palace in Szentendre, the building of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad, the villa in Bijelaand Hotel Boka that was standing in Herceg Novi for decadesand also the National Bank of Montenegro in Cetinje are all lasting hallmarks of the architect’s successful career.

le mardi 21 octobre 12-14h Nincs Parancs / No command! 1989 -  the reinvention of Europe. Documentaire hongrois, 2020, Réalisateur: Péter Szalay (sous-titre anglais, 71 min)

A regime that has been in power for 40 years suddenly collapses, the borders get redrawn. NO COMMAND! tells the eerily similar stories of border guard lieutenant colonels Árpád Bella and Harald Jäger who, exceeding their own authority, allowed the euphoric crowd of East Germans to pass first the Hungarian, then the German border. ”The time of the lieutenant colonels has come,” Bella said. We follow the stages of the two border openings with the characters of the story. They are the officers who were left to their fate by the reigning power – without getting a concrete command. The tragedy of an East German family stands in the focus of the film: they tried to get through the border a few days later. The cathartic story of Kurt-Werner-Schulz, the last victim of the Iron Curtain carries the message of forgiving. NO COMMAND! is the dramatic mixture of facts and personal history.
