Michel Handschumacher was born in Strasbourg in 1965 and works in an architecture agency.  He is a self-taught photographer, whose photographs seek to prolong special moments where it seems that time stands still.

 

In this exhibition, Michel Handschumacher is presenting two photographic projects.

 

The photographs in the first series, “Le temps n’efface pas les erreurs”, were taken in 2013 and 2014 at the Rivesaltes camp in the Roussillon. For thousands of people detained here in the twentieth century due to their origin, religion or political views, this is a site of exile and deprivation of liberty. The camp also has a more recent history, as until 2007 there was a detention centre on this site.

 

The “Memento mori” series examines the movement of time. The captured instant is broken down into three images representing three phases: a before phase that is no more, and which one retains only in memory, a present constantly confronted with its own disappearance, and an after in the making, the unknown.

 

The photographer will hold a stand on Wednesdays 4^th, 11^th, 18^th and 25^th March 2015 from 12:15 to 13:45.²
