Continued solidarity with earthquake victims
On 6 February, two strong earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.5 hit south-eastern Türkiye and Syria. Thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools, were destroyed. The human toll is catastrophic, more than 45,000 dead, over 3 million displaced and a traumatised country.
Thousands of people are now homeless, destitute, and likely to need care as winter weather conditions continue, worsened by potential breakouts of diseases due to limited access to sanitary services.
As a follow-up to the former two fundraising events, the Turkish community at the CoE, in co-operation with Amicale and the DGA, are organising a third event under the auspices of the Congress and Parliamentary Assembly.
Delicious Turkish specialties, will be offered on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 8.30 to 14.30 at the lobby of the hemicycle in the Palais. There will also be a stand from the Azerbaijani Permanent Representation which will be set up for the same purpose.
The event will be officially launched by the President of the Congress and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly at 11.10.
In these difficult times, we trust your solidarity with the earthquake victims.
Even by simply choosing to buy your lunch from the stands, you will help provide shelter, food, and medical supplies to those in need.
Staff, permanent representations or anyone else who would like to participate in this initiative by preparing food are invited to contact (Greta.FAGGIANI@coe.int).Thank you for your support and generosity.
