YESTERDAY TODAY TOMORROW

The Italian presence in the Grand Est region

Saturday 19 November 2022 from 9 30 a. m. to 4 p. m.

Free entrance

This colloquium, which borrows its title from the famous film by Vittorio De Sica (France/Italy, 1963), is a follow-up to the Colloquium "Italians in Alsace, from integration to success" which was held in Mulhouse in 1997 at the University of Haute-Alsace.

The organisers, the Consulate General of Italy in Metz and the Italian Cultural Institute in Strasbourg, with the help of a scientific committee headed by Marie-Louise Antenucci, intend to give the public an updated picture of the history of the Italian presence in Eastern France on Saturday 19 November from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., with a particular focus on the phenomenon of "new mobility" in the European area of free movement.

This study day brings together academics and researchers from different disciplines (history, sociology, literature, etc.) and representatives of the diplomatic and associative world (Comites/Comité des Italiens à l'étranger).

The public will be welcomed from 9.00 am. The opening of this Study Day will be ensured and moderated by Emilio Lolli, Consul General of Italy in Metz and for the Grand-Est and Ambassador Paolo Trichilo, Deputy Director for Resources and Innovation at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (la Farnesina).

The conference will be preceded by the opening of the exhibition "From Origins to Birth" by David Zhornski

Friday 18 November 2022 at 6.30 pm - Strasbourg, Istituto Italiano di Cultura

Free admission - Reservation required on www.iicstrasburgo.esteri.it

Exhibition on view until 25 January/Monday to Thursday from 10am to 12.30pm and from 3pm to 4.30pm

The photographs presented here were taken with analogue cameras using photosensitive film. The resulting negatives are developed in chemical solutions and then printed in a darkroom using traditional methods. All the steps of this "silver" process are done by hand, which makes each print unique.

David Zhornski is the son of Italian immigrants who arrived in France in the late 1950s. His photographs are a journey to the lands of Abruzzo and Lorraine, his places of origin and birth. Through this exhibition, he evokes the strong link that exists between Italy and France, his two homelands.

Some of the landscapes are similar, others are more characteristic and assert their identity. All in their own way symbolise the close relationship with the photographer built up over the years spent discovering them, staging them inspired by the beauty and diversity of these two regions.

Exhibitions: "Regards argentiques" Chapelle Saint-Roch (Illange, 2019) and Galleria Impatto (Rome, 2019); "Des horizons" Espace Suzanne Savary (Thionville, 2020); "Grands formats", Cour des Comptes Européenne (Luxembourg, 2020).
