To celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Council of Europe, the Amicale, in partnership with the Kléber bookstore, the City of Strasbourg and the associations PromoUkrania and "A livre ouvert", and with the support of the Permanent Representations of France and Ukraine, invites you to an exceptional event, on May 5, starting at 5 pm in the Hemicycle of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

"Impossible to conceive of a Europe without Europeans" exclaimed Louise Weiss in Strasbourg, on July 17, 1979, during the first session of the European Parliament elected by universal suffrage. These words resonate particularly strongly at this time when war is at the gates of Europe.

"I want to write to you briefly to tell you how touched I am by your plan to play before the plenary assembly of the United Nations on October 24, to hold a speech against the atomic arms race and to ask that on that day, all over the world, orchestras play the hymn to joy from Beethoven's Ninth. You are right to lead the fight against arms policies even in the field of art," wrote Albert Schweitzer to Pablo Casals on October 3, 1958.

On May 5, the anniversary of the creation of the Council of Europe, it is with the French writer Olivier Guez and excerpts from his collective work "The Grand Tour", conceived as a "self-portrait of Europe by its writers", and it is with Ukrainian musicians that we will take up the torch of these illustrious predecessors.
