Face-to-face DEBATE

Face-to-face DEBATE

Calendar from 05/10/2021 to 05/10/2021

Dear friends of the European Parliamentary Association,

We are delighted to invite you to a face-to-face conference-debate entitled "A healthy environment for future generations: rethinking human rights and the environment in Europe". This event, co-organised by the European Parliamentary Association and the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe, will take place on Tuesday 5 October, starting at 18:30, at 76 allée de la Robertsau, Strasbourg. The evening will end with a cocktail.

To participate in this meeting, it is imperative to confirm your presence by replying to this email.

This event will be an opportunity to discuss and reflect on the relationship between a healthy environment and human rights. How does climate change impact on the enjoyment of human rights? Why is it important to establish the right to a healthy environment at European level? What are the European institutions doing to increase the environmental responsibility of companies and states? What role can the European Green Pact play in advancing climate justice?

This is a historic challenge, affecting both the work of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. In order to provide food for thought on this subject, we will have the pleasure of discussing it with two parliamentarians sitting in these two assemblies:

  • Maria Arena, Belgian MEP, member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. In the European Parliament, she is chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights;
  • Simon Moutquin, Belgian Member of Parliament, member of the Ecolo party. As a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he is the author of a recent report which calls for the right to a healthy environment to be anchored in European texts.

This event will take place in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe, an initiative that aims to invite citizens from all over the continent to share their ideas and thus contribute to the construction of our common future.

In this context, a series of workshops will take place before the conference at 7pm, starting at 6.30pm, to discuss how this challenge affects our daily lives and to come up with proposals and ideas which will then be presented to our speakers.

For organisational reasons, we ask you to specify in your reply whether you are only attending the conference or whether you wish to participate in the conference and the workshops.

For the health of all, the health pass will be required and controlled at the entrance and the barrier gestures must be respected.

We look forward to seeing you there and remain at your disposal for any further information.

Best regards,
