DEBATE: Towards a Union of equality. What are the new tools to fight discrimination in Europe?

Calendar from 26/05/2021 to 26/05/2021

Dear friend of the European Parliamentary Association,

We are delighted to invite you to “Towards a Union of equality. What are the new tools to fight discrimination in Europe?”, an online debate organised in the framework of the Conference on the future of Europe that will take place on Wednesday 26 May, from 7 to 7:45 pm.

To participate, you just have to click on this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86388378055

What does the EU do and what does it need to do better to fight discrimination? Join our debate and have your say.

Do you already have a question or an idea to share? Do not wait until May 26, but write it here: https://app.sli.do/event/ulyhm8fb or mail it to: contact@ape-europa.eu. Your question will be answered during the debate.

Equality, diversity and non discrimination are fundamental ingredients of the European promise. During the last decades, the European Union has stepped up efforts not only to promote equality between women and men but also to combat discrimination based on ethnic and racial origin, sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, age, religion or belief. Important advances were made, but this work is not finished yet and it has to be protected against the risks of setbacks.

European institutions are currently engaged in achieving a Union of equality and put in place new mechanisms, policies and actions that challenge structural discrimination and the stereotypes that are still present in our societies and that affect the lives of many people across the continent.

Who are the main vulnerable groups in Europe today and what are the main challenges that they are facing? What are the new initiatives at EU level to fight discrimination and push for a fairer and more equal Europe? How can we effectively fight discrimination?

We will discuss about it with:

Marc Angel, Member of the European Parliament for the Socialists and Democrats and co-chair of the LGBTI Intergroup;

Claudia Luciani, Director of the Human Dignity, Equality and Governance Directorate at the Council of Europe.

We hope to see you there.

Yours sincerely,

Matteo ANGELI
