Meeting with Maria Duenas, winner of the 1st European Love Novel Prize

Calendar from 12/02/2020 to 14/02/2020

L'Amicale and the Permanent Representation of Spain invite you to an exclusive meeting with Maria Duenas, winner of the 1st European Love Novel Prize for her novel "The Spy from Tangier" (original title: "El tiempo entre costuras").

The Spanish writer, who will be the guest of honour at the 2020 edition of "Strasbourg mon amour" (the prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for 13 February at 11.00 a.m. at the City Hall), will be at the Council of Europe on 14 February to meet with agents and staff of diplomatic missions.

The meeting will take place at 5 pm in Room 2 of the Palais, with musical entertainment by the Council of Europe choir.

The European Love Novel Prize was created in 2019 on a joint initiative of l'Amicale and the City of Strasbourg, with the active involvement of the "European Cultural Partners" and the André Malraux Media Library. On the occasion of the 2019 edition of Strasbourg mon amour, seven books from different countries, selected by the European Cultural Partners (Consulates General of Austria, Spain, Russia and Switzerland, Goethe-Institut, Italian Cultural Institute, Spanish Language School, Alliance Française Strasbourg Europe), were in competition. Following the presentation of the competing books on 7 February 2019, a public vote was held until 31 May 2019, to which was added the vote of the one-day jurors, meeting on 1 June 2019 at the André Malraux media library.

For this first edition, sponsored by the French author and cartoonist Jack Koch, the success of the event was undeniable thanks to the contribution of more than 250 voters. The final ranking was as follows:

1. "The Spy of Tangier" by Maria Duenas (Spain);

2. "Terminal terrestre" by Daniel de Roulet (Switzerland);

3. "The Young Wife" by Alessandro Baricco (Italy) ;

4. "Self-portrait of a hippopotamus" by Arno Geiger (Austria);

5. "Par amour" by Valérie Tong Cuong (France) ;

6. "The end of loneliness" by Benedict Wells (Germany) ;

7. "The Conjuring of Angels" by Igor Sakhnovski (Russia).
