The Association of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe (ASPS) is pleased to invite you to attend the Public Debate on “Fake News! Fake Democracy? What next?” at l’ERAGE (4,rue Brûlée,Strasbourg) at 19h30 on Thursday 7 November.

(Interpretation from and into English, French and Russian)

ASPS President, Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner (2012-2018), Nils Muižnieks (Latvia) will head a panel of distinguished speakers including:

  • Ana Gomes, Portuguese diplomat and MEP (2004-2019);

  • Aleksandr Shmelev, Russian political scientist, journalist and founder of sapere.online;

Disinformation or “fake news” has always existed but today it spreads like wild fire skewing democratic processes and fuelling mistrust of the media, politics, experts and much more besides!

The 5 keynote speakers will each make a 10 minute presentation on fake news seen through the prism of their experience and the country or region from which they come.

The meeting which is open to the public will then be opened to the floor so that the audience can react. This will be when you can put your views and ask questions.

Don’t miss this one off opportunity to hear from people who are dealing with fake news and disinformation on a daily basis!

ADMITTANCE IS FREE.
