López-Nussa has explored the worlds of classical, popular and jazz music with ease. A glance at his background is enough to see the diversity of his experience: a recording of Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Fourth Piano Concerto" (2003) with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, first prize and audience prize in the Jazz Piano Solo competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 2005. He has been involved in projects as varied as "Ninety Miles" (a recording with David Sánchez, Christian Scott and Stefon Harris) and "Esencial" (an album of compositions by the revered Cuban classical guitarist, composer and conductor Leo Brouwer), both in 2011.
As for popular music and experience in the field, he has taken part in projects such as the Cuba volume of Rhythms del Mundo, together with veterans from the Buena Vista Social Club, and spent three years in the group of singer Omara Portuondo, an opportunity he describes as a "blessing". And not only has he distilled all this experience into a rich, personal style as a composer and musician, but it all inspired him to strive to make his creations attractive and to share his music.
