Trial re-enactment Brancusi v. the United States, 27 June at 12.45

Calendar the 27/06/2016

You are cordially invited to the first trial re-enactment ever done at the Court – Brancusi v. the United States.

In 1927 Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957), a Romanian-born sculptor, shipped his work "Bird in Space", to his friend, Edward Steichen, in New York. The American Customs authorities refused to allow it duty-free entry, having not recognised it as a work of art. Brancusi appealed, and thus began in New York the most famous trial concerning the definition of a work of art.

The re-enactment will take place at 12.45 on 27 June in the Small Drum.  It will be performed by a judge of the Court, colleagues from the Registry as well as members of the Tagora theatre group. More details about this project are available in this month’s NewsBulletin.
