To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Albert Schweitzer, and the forthcoming exhibition, “Albert Schweitzer between the lines”, organised by the National University Library of Strasbourg (BNU) from 17 October 2015 to 3 January 2016, the Council of Europe Amicale is pleased to invite you to a lecture. It will take place in the Council of Europe’s basement conference-room at 5.00 p.m. on Friday 9 October.

Our speaker, who takes as his subject “Albert Schweitzer, his experience of Europe and his critical vision”, will be Mr Jean-Paul Sorg, professor of philosophy, former president of the AFAAS (French association of the friends of Albert Schweitzer), editor-in-chief of the series “Cahiers de l’AFAAS”, and joint curator of the BNU’s exhibition.

Albert Schweitzer – philosopher, theologian, pastor, doctor, writer and organist – was born on  14 January 1875 in Kaysersberg (Haut-Rhin) and died on 4 September 1965 in Lambaréné (Gabon). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his humanitarian work.

Following the lecture, guests are warmly invited to a drink in the Parliamentarians’ Bar.
