To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ECHR, the Amicale is honored to invite you to the presentation of the book “Les beaux arrêts de la Cour européenne des droits de l'homme” by the “Association des amis de la Fondation René Cassin” – December 15, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., Room 6 (Palais). With the participation of: Mattias Guyomar (President of the ECHR), Frédéric Krenc (Judge elected on behalf of Belgium), Anna Glazewski (Lecturer in public law at the University of Strasbourg), Marion Larché (Professor of Public Law at the University of Lille), Thibaut Larrouturou (Professor of Public Law at the University of Évry Paris-Saclay, and former referendary at the Court), and Nicolas Régis (Referendary Advisor to the Court of Cassation).
The “Association des amis de la Fondation René Cassin” was founded following the transformation of the International Institute of Human Rights into the René Cassin Foundation in order to serve as an associative support for the latter and to enable those who wish to do so to express their connection or attachment to the Foundation, its missions, and its activities. The association carries out various activities aimed at promoting human rights in general and the European system of human rights protection in particular, including organizing conferences and symposiums, awarding prizes for research dissertations, and publishing books. Many current and former Council of Europe staff members are or have been involved in the activities of the Cassin Foundation and/or the “Association des amis de la Fondation.”
The latest work published under its auspices, entitled “Les beaux arrêts de la Cour européenne des droits de l'homme” , to which President Guyomar and Frédéric Krenc, judge elected on behalf of Belgium, contributed in particular, will be presented on December 15 by Mustapha Afroukh, Secretary General of the “Association des amis de la Fondation Cassin”. This unique work celebrates the most remarkable decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. Under the scientific direction of Mustapha Afroukh, Michel Levinet, and Jean-Pierre Marguénaud, this work brings together contributions from eminent specialists in European law: professors and lecturers in law, judges at the European Court of Human Rights, advisors to the Court of Cassation and the Council of State, and lawyers. It offers a unique perspective on the Court's contribution. Each of the judgments selected, for their sacred wording, their aesthetic perfection, or their striking courage, rehabilitates a body of case law that is often overlooked. Through contemporary themes such as freedom of expression, law and religion, and violence against women, this book highlights the crucial role of the Court in defending fundamental rights.
