Taras Kompanichenko is a Ukrainian cultural figure, member of the Plast Ukrainian youth organisation, composer, poet, kobzar, bandura player, lirnyk, and multi-instrumentalist. He is also a textologist, musicologist, and music historian. He is a researcher and populariser of Ukraine's epic, medieval, and baroque musical traditions.
He is the leader of the musical group ‘Khoreya Kozatska.’ Honoured Artist of Ukraine (2008) and People's Artist of Ukraine (2019). With the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, he mobilised to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is a senior soldier in the 241st Separate Territorial Defence Brigade. Winner of the Shevchenko Prize in 2023.
