On this 30 March we are publishing an original poem written by Martha Amann, a student of Strasbourg University

Unter der Kruste meines Herzens

Füllt sich ein Reservoir

Gefühle werden dort zu Worten

Doch sind sie gänzlich unnahbar

Die Spannung wächst mit jeder Emotion

Es brodelt tief im Innern

Auf steigt das Magma der Gefühle

Um den Druck zu lindern

 

Dann drücken sich die Worte

Einfach hinaus aus mir

Und spritzen, so wie rote heiße Lava

Auf ein Blatt Papier

 

Beneath the crust that veils my heart

 

A reservoir lies deep inside

Where feelings load and turn to words

Yet voiceless still, they must abide

The tension grows with every tide

I shiver more and more

The magma of my soul ascends

To ease the pressure of my core

Then these words are suddenly

Just pushing out of me

They spatter like hot dark-red lava

Upon a page for me to see
