Calendar from 11/02/2025 to 11/03/2025

The European Parliamentary Association and the Young Europeans of Strasbourg are pleased to invite you to a public debate titled “The EU and the New Trump Presidency: Strategies and Opportunities?”.

This event will take place on Tuesday, February 11, from 8:00 PM to 9:15 PM, at the headquarters of the European Parliamentary Association (76 allée de la Robertsau, Strasbourg).

The conference will be held in French and English (without interpretation) and will be followed by a cocktail reception.

Following the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States, this debate aims to examine how Europe is preparing for and must adapt to the impact of the new U.S. administration on transatlantic relations. Our discussions will focus on key issues such as trade and NATO's strategic role, as well as other major international challenges, including climate change, the war in Ukraine, relations with China, energy supply, and the future of a multilateral global system.

To confirm your attendance, please register via this link: DEBAT « L'UE face à la nouvelle présidence Trump : Quelles stratégies, quelles opportunités ? »

We will have the opportunity to engage with three Members of the European Parliament who are particularly active on this topic:

  • Brando Benifei (Socialists and Democrats, Italy): Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the United States
  • General Christophe Gomart (European People’s Party, France): Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence
  • Marie-Pierre Vedrenne (Renew Europe, France): Chair of the L’Europe Ensemble delegation, Member of the Committee on International Trade

General Gomart and Ms. Vedrenne will speak in French, while Mr. Benifei will speak in English.

This debate is organized in cooperation with the Young Europeans of Strasbourg, who will lead two workshops titled:

  • "Social Media, Disinformation, and Foreign Interference in the Trump Era"
  • "Trump 2.0: Time for European Defense Independence?"

During these workshops, you will have the opportunity to explore one of these topics in depth and prepare for the debate with the MEPs that will follow.

The workshops will begin at 7:00 PM and last approximately 30 minutes. If you wish to participate, please indicate so in your response.
