The European Parliamentary Association is pleased to invite you to a debate on mental health and the role of bioethics and European policies in this area.
This event is part of the 15ᵉ edition of the European Bioethics Forum, whose main theme is ‘Mental health and bioethics’.
Join us for a discussion in English and French, with interpretation, entitled ‘From bioethical issues to action: how can the European Union lead the way on mental health?’. This debate will take place on Wednesday 12 February, from 8.00 pm to 9.15 pm, at the headquarters of the European Parliamentary Association (76 Allée de la Robertsau, Strasbourg) and will be followed by a cocktail reception.

We will be honoured to welcome four renowned experts in the field:
- Maria Walsh: Member of the European Parliament (Ireland, EPP), highly committed to mental health issues, particularly among young people and farming communities. She is the author of a report entitled ‘Mental health in the digital world of work’ and is calling for increased funding for mental health policies and a global EU strategy on the subject;
- Alex Agius Saliba: Member of the European Parliament (Malta, S&D), he actively supports the development of a Europe-wide mental health strategy, focusing on issues such as pain management and advocating legislation guaranteeing workers' right to disconnect.
- Aurélien Benoilid: President of the European Bioethics Forum and neurologist.
- Maria Fartunova: Professor of public law and holder of the Jean Monnet ‘EUBioethics’ Chair.
In September 2022, mental health was mentioned for the first time in a State of the Union speech, marking an important turning point in the way this subject is addressed at EU level. This time, the European Bioethics Forum is focusing on this major challenge. Faced with the rise in disorders such as anxiety, depression and burn-out, our debate will seek to explore how bioethics can guide European action to improve access to care and support the most vulnerable populations.
We hope to see you there!
