On Tuesday 22 October the three prizewinners of the Amicale’s first ever haiku competition – Pascal Dourneau-Josette, Benedetta Casiraghi and Pierre Heinz - received their prizes from Permanent Observer of Japan to the Council of Europe and Consul General, Mr. UCHIDA Hiroyuki. Ms. AOKi Miku, Vice-consul was also present at the prize giving.
This competition was organized to mark the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 10th anniversary of the Japanese language section. It was co organized by the Amicale’s Japanese language section and Poetry Club and kindly supported by Consulate-General of Japan.
Consul General UCHIDA expressed his support for this activity and hoped that it would further strengthen cultural ties between Japan and the Council of Europe.
Given the success of this competition, the Amicale has decided to organize a haiku competition every year and it’s probable that the next competition will be launched on 11 February 2025 to coincide with Japan’s National Foundation Day.
