The Amicale and the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe

Calendar from 14/06/2024 to 14/06/2024

Yesterday, 5 May 2024, the Council of Europe celebrated its 75th anniversary. On this occasion, the Amicale has organised, co-organised, or supported various activities. Among them, two events have already been labelled for this anniversary: a concert for Ukraine on 28 March at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès, and a cycle tour from Vaduz to Basel on 12 and 13 April organised by the Amicale's Eurocyclos section.

For upcoming activities, Tagora, the theatre group of the Amicale, offers a preview of two performances in english, "The Poorly-Written Play Festival" and an improvisation show on 10 and 11 May at the cultural space Hangenbieten, before performing at the Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies (FEATS) in Belgium on 20 May.

On 13 May, a european karaoke event will take place from 20.00 in the vault of the European Parliamentary Association, 76 Allée de la Robertsau. The event is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Council of Europe in partnership with the Amicale, the APE and other permanent representations.

On 15 May, a meeting with Christos Giakomopoulous, Director General at Directorate General I, Human Rights and Rule of Law, will animate the 4th event of the Greek Circle, reflecting on his 40 years of service at the Council. This meeting will take place at the Palais in room 10.C from 12:30 pm to 2pm.

In partnership with the Rebond association, the International Women's Tennis of Strasbourg, and the Council's Sports Division, a roundtable will be held on 21 May on the theme of psychological and sexual violence in sports among minors. The event will take place from 2pm to 4:30 pm in room 5 of the Palais.

On 4 June, the General Assembly of the Council of Europe staff will be an opportunity to honour the 75th anniversary of the Organisation.

A Japanese Tea Ceremony will be held on Thursday 6 June from 12:30 to 14:00 at the Bar des Parlementaires. This ceremony is part of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Japanese section of the Amicale. The main celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Amicale will take place on the 14th of June. It will begin with a "historical walk" through the main achievements of the Council, important personalities who have marked the history of the Organisation and testimonies from agents who have worked at the Council of Europe at different times, including agents in external offices. This first part will take place from 3 pm to 5:30 pm in room 1 of the Palais, followed by a concert and a social gathering at the Blue Restaurant of the Council from 6 pm to 8:30 pm.

On 18 June, a meeting with AFP journalist Hervé Asquin will take place at the Palais to present his book "Le jugement dernier - La Cour européenne des droits de l'homme, ultime recours contre les dérives autoritaires et populistes".

On 27 September, under the patronage of the Permanent Representation of Lithuania, the Amicale's traditional Back-to-Work Party will be held at the Blue Restaurant from 20:30.

Finally, the publication of the book "50 years of art exhibitions at the Council of Europe" will be an opportunity to rediscover the artists exhibited at the Council, thanks to the Arts Club of the Amicale.
