This film is the adaptation of the novel Cenere (Embers) by the writer Grazia Deledda, Nobel Prize winner for literature. The main performer of film, Eleonora Duse, considered one of the greatest Italian theater actresses and whose only appearance on screen, collaborated in writing the screenplay.

This year, the world is celebrating the centenary of his death.
