Christmas, as we all know, is a time that compels us to extend a helping hand to those in need. The Amicale of the Council of Europe would like to express gratitude to all those who have dedicated their time, skills, and resources to the organisation of our charity Christmas market, supporting Ukraine during the distressing Russian aggression.
23 countries were represented at the market (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Japan, Hungary, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom and Ukraine) as well as Amicale Femmes of the Council of Europe and the Association PromoUkraina.
At their national tables they presented their national culture, culinary traditions and cultural artifacts. But the most important, they have shown the unity and solidarity that the Council of Europe embodies.
During the market, the world known National Academic Choral Capella “Dumka” performed Ukrainian traditional Christmas songs in the Council of Europe. We also had the pleasure of listening to the Council of Europe choir and the Ukrainian band “Anticello”.
This year, due to the generosity of each and every person who attended the market and contributed to the cause, we collected more than 16000 Euros!
Each donation, no matter how big or small, will help fund the Superhumans Centre in Ukraine, providing prostheses for injured individuals who have suffered immensely due to the Russian aggression. Through our collective efforts, we are empowering these brave people to regain their independence and rebuild their lives.
In a time when conflicts and challenges persist in different corners of our world, the spirit of unity and generosity of our charity Christmas market reflects the Council of Europe's continued dedication to the prevention of violence, the preservation of democracy, and the promotion of human rights.
