With the support of the Amicale, the women@PACE group concluded this week its first fundraising action for Ukrainian women, offering a 100 specially designed flak jackets to women in the Verkhovna Rada.
“State institutions continue to work in Ukraine, with the parliament meeting physically in Kyiv. As public figures, the parliamentarians and also the staff are in constant danger. In order for them to be able to protect the state, they need elementary protection themselves. With this in mind, eleven members of the group came together to make a public call for raising necessary funds”, explained Ms Laima Lucija Andrikiene, the initiator of the project. “Today we can happily announce that the flak jackets have arrived in Kyiv to their intended recipients. The project became fast success thanks to the many donations from MPs and staff, but also because of generous aid from the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania.”
“It was a speedy and much-needed initiative. These jackets are a great shield of solidarity, coming from the heart of our fellow-parliamentarians and beyond”, added Mariia Mezentseva, head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE. “We appreciate that you did not only think about us, the lawmakers, but also of the staff and journalists with whom we can share them”.
