Seven authors in competition for the European Prize for Romantic Novels 2022

Launched in 2019 at the initiative of the Book1 association, the European Prize for Romantic Novels  is coming back this year for a second edition. This award is supported and presented by the City and Eurométropole de Strasbourg, in partnership with the André Malraux Médiathèque, the Staff Amicale of the Council of Europe and European cultural partners (Consulats Généraux d'Autriche et de Russie, Institut Goethe, Institut culturel italien, École de langue espagnole, Alliance française Strasbourg-Europe) during the Strasbourg mon amour festival.

An official presentation of the Prize is organized at the Médiathèque André Malraux on Wednesday 9 February 2022 at 6.30 pm, with the participation of the sociologist and writer Jean-Claude Kaufmann (free entry subject to availability), a pioneer of microsociology and a specialist in couples. On the same day, a writing workshop open to all will also take place at 4pm at the Médiathèque, (reservations at 03.88.45.10.10.).

This second edition of the Prize, sponsored by the Spanish writer Maria Duenas, winner of the first edition, features seven authors of different nationalities translated into French:

  • Gregor Sander (Germany) for his novel Retour à Budapest
  • Robert Seethaler (Austria) for Le Champ
  • Rosa Montero (Spain) for L’idée ridicule de ne plus jamais te revoir
  • Amanda Stehrs (France) for ettres d’amour sans le dire
  • Sally Rooner (Ireland) for Conversations entre amis
  • Crisitina Comencini (Italy) for Quatre amours
  • Ludmila Ulitskaya (Russia) for L’échelle de Jacob

The public will be able to vote online from 1 March to 31 October 2022 on the Mediatheques' literary blog, myriades.strasbourg.eu, on espagesdamour-book1.e-monsite.com  and on the Facebook page of the European Prize for Romantic Novels. The media libraries have several copies of the novels, and extracts will also be distributed during reading workshops and on myriades.strasbourg.eu

The winner will be revealed in November 2022 and then invited to Strasbourg in early 2023 to receive the Prize, along with a cheque for 5,000 euros offered by the City and the Eurometropole de Strasbourg.
