Dear friend of the European Parliamentary Association,
We are delighted to invite you to our first videoconference after the summer break, titled “Fundamental rights and EU funds. No respect, no money?”, which will take place on Wednesday 9 September, from 7 to 7:30 pm, on Zoom.

Should the member states who do not respect European fundamental values, get no European money? This is the main question to which we will try to answer during our debate.
On the one side, in some parts of the continent we are witnessing to an increase of the violations of EU core values, that include attempts to dismantle media freedom, to interfere with the independence of the judicial system and to oppress minorities, especially the LGBTQ ones.
On the other side, there is a mounting pressure on the governments who are responsible for these violations, in order to make them comply with EU laws. And all this takes places during the negotiations of the next EU long term budget and of the recovery fund, with the European Commission, the European Parliament and some member states that are calling for a mechanism capable to ensure that no EU funds go to governments that violate European values. Will they make it?
We will have the pleasure to discuss about it with:
- Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament (S&D)
- Sandro Gozi, MEP (Renew Europe) and President of the Union of European Federalists
- Terry Reintke, MEP, Vice-President of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament
I remain at your disposal for every additional information.
Thank you for your time and attention.
