Screening of “Le nom des 86” – 11 February, 8pm, Cinéma Star

Calendar the 11/02/2019

The Court’s Film Club and the Amicale cordially invite you to  screening of the documentary “Le nom des 86” (in French only).

86 Jews selected at the Auschwitz camp were deported in the summer of 1943 to the Natzweiler-Struthof camp in Alsace, where a gas chamber was specially equipped to kill them. August Hirt, director of the Institute of Anatomy of Strasbourg, wished to build a collection of Jewish skeletons, to keep track of this "race" which "embodies a rebellious but characteristic subhumanity" *.

How did this grim project come about?

What happened to the 86 Jews gassed for this anatomical collection?

At the scene of the crime, experts, witnesses and actors tell the story of one of the most tragic episodes of the Second World War, emblematic of the Shoah and the drifts of the science under the Nazis, while questioning the difficult memory of crime and its ethical implications. But this story is also and above all the fight of a German journalist to give an identity to these men and women, which had been reduced to a list of numbers. The tireless quest to find the names of the 86.

* according to the words used by August Hirt

One of the directors of the film, Emmanuel Heyd , will be present at the screening to answer questions.

  • Screening  at the Cinéma Star: 27 Rue du Jeu-des-Enfants, Strasbourg.
