Gabriel Heimler and Anna Proc have worked together for over fifteen years on murals and paintings, having been commissioned for a range of public art in their adopted home of Wellington, New Zealand and also producing individual paintings and a new exhibition series in their distinctive style each year.

They paint in acrylics on the large scale, often using multiple canvases - diptychs and triptychs – for a single scene. Their use of line and colour is vibrant and matches the themes of their work: they explore deep emotions, including humour, against the background of the widest cultural diversity.

The paintings shown here are among their more mysterious, darker works. Their sunniest work often contains a disturbing element, reflecting and celebrating literary, historical and artistic movements and events. The fluid boundaries of their representations show us the precarity of our assumptions about everyday elements such as birds or cars, as well as the excitement of adventure should we choose it.
