"Vycinanka" is a Belarusian art of paper cutting. It has been historically used by the local population to decorate their houses out of old newspaper, wrapping paper, or any other recycled paper.
Nowadays, in many countries political persecution, forced migration, and governmental abuse produce everyday reality.
Members of the artist group "La résistance du papier" use paper to process the rupture, grief, and fear caused by repressions. The fragility and vulnerability of paper make it a perfect medium to communicate the experiences of injustice, violence, and mass detentions. At the same time, paper symbolises legitimacy, education, and awareness. This art exhibition aims to expose experiences from contemporary Eastern Europe through a traditional medium of paper cutting.
