2016 Trip to London

Written publié le 02/03/2016

After the very successful trips to London over the last three years, Amicale Education are organising a new trip to London in October 2016.  The dates for the trip are Friday 21st – Monday 24th October 2016.

During the trip, the children will see the impressive “The Railway Children” at the Kings Cross Theatre. Set in a brand new, purpose built venue, this breathtaking show features a stage built around a real train track and a beautiful 60 tonne vintage locomotive that steams into the theatre. The story is about Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis, three children whose lives change dramatically when their father is mysteriously taken away and they are forced to relocate from London to a cottage in rural Yorkshire with their mother. The theatre production is based on the book, “The Railway Children”, written by Edith Nesbit in 1905, and it captures the times of the Edwardian period wonderfully.

The children will also visit the Imperial War Museum for the “Family in Wartime” exhibition. This exhibition tells the story of how ordinary people braved the challenges of life during the Second World War, through the eyes of the Allpress family, who lived in Stockwell, London.

A contrast will be provided by a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum where the children will be able to choose between the ‘Fashion’ collection (the largest collection of dress in the world, including 1960’s daywear and post-war couture, as well as pieces from 21st century designers) or the ‘Architecture’ gallery – the first museum gallery in the country to be dedicated to architecture.

There will also be a shopping expedition to the world-famous Foyles bookshop and a film in a London cinema to complete the weekend. The Hotel Meininger at Hyde Park will provide a comfortable resting place as usual, with its well-equipped bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, restaurant facilities and games room.

There are 16 places for the London trip, open to children aged between 9 and 13 years. Places are reserved according to availability and on receipt of the application form (signed and dated) and a deposit of €200 per child.

If you have any questions about the trip, don’t hesitate to email us, otherwise, complete the application form and return it with the deposit as soon as possible to reserve a place.
