170th Anniversary of the abolition of Slavery - Commemorative Day

The Caribbean dance section joined theassociation KARAÏB’VIBE to mark the 170thanniversary of the abolition of slavery with a commemorative day on Saturday 24 March, the day before of the United Nations' International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. 

The event took place at the Pavillon Joséphine in Strasbourg. Representatives of the City of Strasbourg and journalists covered the event. The programme included:

. Exhibitions on the theme of slavery in the Caribbean (history, heritage and culture)
. Exhibition of novels by Caribbean authors – Readings of texts and poems 
. Conference on "dance and slavery"

. Presentation of CoE action against Trafficking in Human Beings

. Presentation of dances and songs ; and dances with audience participation. 
Caribbean snacks and drinks were available, to give the audience a taste of Caribbean cuisine, largely inherited from slaves of the Caribbean.
