Nearly a thousand people attended the Amicale’s concert on 20 October in the hemicycle of the Palais de l’Europe. A hundred players and singers from the Unesco Orchestra and Choir reinforced by the Council of Europe Choir and, more importantly by instrumental and vocal soloists from major groups such as the Choeur de Radio-France and the Orchestre national de France were directed by the Mexican conductor Jorge Lozano Corres. The programme was varied, ranging from Anton Bruckner’s Requiem in D minor to arias and chorus from operas such as Mozart’s Idomeneo and The Marriage of Figaro, Verdi’s Nabucco and La Traviata, Wagner’s Lohengrin, Bizet’s Carmen and Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann.

The evening, which included a drinks party hosted by the Amicale, was a great success. The conductor and musicians received a standing ovation. The evening was financed entirely by sponsors and made it possible, thanks to the sales of recordings of previous concerts jointly mounted by the Unesco Orchestra and Choir and the Amicale, to collect a sum of €2500, which has been donated to Restos Bébé du Coeur, an association which helps mothers and babies in difficulty.
