The art of moving well and with ease was developped by the actor F.M.Alexander over a century ago and has since then spread mostly in anglo-saxon countries. France is catching on and for good reason. Find out how the experience of this technique brings palpable and concrete meaning Socracte’s “Know thyself”.

How we use ourselves in our daily activities seems so natural that we generally don't pay much attention to it, until we experience pain or frustration. Curiosity and a need for a higher quality of life can also lead us to learn to move with ease, efficiency and grace.

As it goes,  we all learn new skills in life. Walking, talking, driving a car, using a computer, learning a new language, a sport or technology. There are so many things that grab our attention that we are quick to forget that we ourselves are the very instrument  needed to carry out our tasks.

So what would it be like to learn a primary movement  like you would the primary colors should you be a painter?  This primary skill would teach you to how to move according to your natural design as you go about your daily chores. It also gives you the invaluable skill to change: to free yourself of old  habits so that your actions appropriately match any given situation at any given moment.

As you educate your senses and enhance your sensitivity, your actions become more reliable and satisfying.

The Alexander teacher offers the student  an “owner’s guide”  of his or her body,  increasing its adaptability to modern societies demands and guiding the student to his or her full potential. The student learns to release unnecessary muscle tension, to avoid harmful functioning patterns and enjoys the experience of poise, well-being and confidence.

Other options and choices arise.

If indeed, according to Albert Einstein “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result”, F.M. Alexander  offers “ to give you a new experience.”

His work, recognized by nobel prize winners, scientists and celebrities worldwide is accessible to everybody.

Who can benefit from the Alexander Technique?

  • People who’s success depends on their behaviour: Coaches, athletes, artists, dancers, musicians, public speakers and presenters,  desk workers, interpreters,…
  • People suffering from back pain, head aches, tensions, stress and other challenges to their well-being
  • People who would like to add some new aspects , zest, creativity or energy to  their routine (working at a computer).
  • People who work on a specific difficulty (fear of speaking in public)
  • People interested in personal growth and looking for a new experience  to open other choices for action

Several formats are offered at the Council of Europe every week on Fridays. We recommend trying group and individual lessons to find out what each has to offer and what might match your needs.
