The Council of Europe’s Choir, accompanied by musicians from the Philharmonie de Strasbourg and the Kehl Chamber Music Ensemble (Kehler Kammerorchester), under the direction of Maud Fouché, performed
on Tuesday, 4 July at 7:30 pm
at the Protestant Chapel of the Civil Hospital of Strasbourg.
Around a hundred people came to listen to the musicians play and sing including staff of the hospital, chaplains (Michel Weckel and Annick Van der Linden), who so generously opened the chapel for this occasion and some members of the Association Astres - this association practices basketball in wheelchair (link to the Facebook page of the Association Astres: https://www.facebook.com/Association.ASTRES).
Four movements from Vivaldi’s Gloria, were performed after only 4 to 5 rehearsals, as well as Bruckner’s Locus Iste, Ave Verum by Beethoven, a Renaissance madrigal, the performance was rounded off with some lively gospel songs which all resonated under the vault of this pretty Protestant chapel and hopefully to the delight of the audience!
This was the first time that the Council of Europe Choir accompanied by musicians has performed outside the Council of Europe premises, we sincerely hope to be able to repeat this experience.
Through the generosity of the public, we were able to hand over almost 170 EUR to the Chapel, and 175 EUR to the Association Astres. They will undoubtedly make good use of this donation.
