Ten Byzantine churches from Troodos

Amicale du conseil de l'europe

FR

Ten Byzantine period churches from Troodos are listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Stavros tou Agiasmati, Panagia tou Araka, Timios Stavros at Pelendri, Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, Panagia Podithou, Panagia Asinou, Agios Ioannis Lambadistis, Panagia (Moutoulla), Archangelos Michael at Pedoulas and Sotiros at Palaichori. Near Galata village is the church of Panagia Podithou, which once belonged to a monastery. It was  built in  1502.  Its  paintings  are  of  the  Italo-Byzantine  style,  which  appeared  on  the  island towards the end of the 15th century. The church is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Grand Rue

This street is one of the longest and oldest in Strasbourg. It borrows the route of an old Roman road ("Strata Superior") that connected the city of Saverne to the Roman camp ("Castrum") of Argentoratum then established near the Cathedral Square.
Today we can admire houses dating from the 17th and 18th century. At the corner of Rue du Fosse des Tanneurs, stands a modern house built on the site of the "birthplace of the "superstar" of the French waltz, Emile Waldteufel.
