Who are we?
We are a growing number of former Council of Europe staff members or their dependents who have joined forces in an association to stay in touch with one another and defend our legitimate interests. We are of different nationalities and live in many countries across Europe. We are convinced that in today’s world the more numerous we are, the stronger we shall be!
What is the Association?
The International Association of Former Council of Europe Staff Members (usually referred to by its French acronym, AIACE) was established in 1979.
Its present statutes were adopted in1996. It is a non-profit making body and pursues no political or religious goals. Its primary purpose is to maintain contacts between former Council of Europe officials and defend its members’ interests.
The Association is managed by a committee of at least 7 members. They are all unpaid volunteers elected by the Annual General Meeting (AGM). They, in turn, elect a president.
What do we do?
We keep former staff members in touch by informing them of major developments in the Council of Europe and particularly those which affect them directly.
We defend our collective interests by overseeing the proper application of the rules governing our pension and health insurance schemes.
We work in close cooperation with the Staff Committee, the Staff Amicale, the Supervisory Board on Medical and Social Protection as well the Association of Pensioned Staff of the Coordinated Organisations and their Dependents (AAPOCAD).
We support serving staff on important issues of fairness in administrative or contractual matters.
From time to time we organise gatherings and social and leisure activities.
We are open to all those who want to join us in a spirit of friendship and solidarity.
How do we operate?
The Association operates solely with the annual subscriptions of its members.
The Council of Europe provides logistical support. We have been allocated an office in D Building (the old Human Rights building) and meeting rooms are made available for the AGM and our periodic committee meetings.
How to become a member
If you are a former Council of Europe staff member, or a dependent of one, and would like to join us all you need to do is write to the AIACE Secretariat, enclosing your annual subscription of €15, at the following address: AIACE, Bâtiment D, Bureau 109a, Conseil de l’Europe, F 67075 Strasbourg Cedex, France.
Our hopes for the future!
We look forward to being able to keep you better and more quickly informed through an AIACE association web site.
We would like to be the contact point for those who are having to cope with loneliness or other difficult situations.
We hope we can live up to your expectations, but first and foremost we hope you will join us because our strength is in numbers.
